The most famous spy in the world returns to the big screen for the 24th time. Does the secret agent still have a bullet in the needle to make us embark on another adventure?

Directed by Sam Mendes (director of 007 - Operation Skyfall), 007 Against Specter (Specter, UK / USA, 2015) again brings Daniel Craig in the skin of James Bond, which this time seeks to unravel all the secrets behind a criminal organization, while M (Ralph Fiennes) attempts to prevent the closing of the 00 agent program.

As usual, the opening is technically flawless. In addition to being very well photographed, a good part of the initial scene is performed in a sequence shot, which accompanies the protagonist through the Day of the Dead party in Mexico. The technical mastery of the cinematographer, Hoyte Van Hoytema (Interstellar), is noticed throughout the feature. In addition to differentiating locations, Hoytema also uses the contrast between light and dark, light and shadow very well. All of this combined with a team of practical effects, led by Chris Corbould, makes the film a true visual and technical wonder.

007 Against Specter it's not just visual prowess. The sound design also deserves to be mentioned. With the right choice of sound range from mise-en-scène and an incredible mix, we were able to insert ourselves into the action scenes in a very natural way without the typical exaggerations of elements and intensity of sound so common today.

The big problem, as in most Bond films, is found in the script. With unnecessary characters and unconvincing obstacles, the film ends up dispersing attention to what really matters within the plot. Many action scenes are there without much justification and anesthetize the viewer, so that the sequences at the moment of climax lose a lot of strength.

A very strong brand in the franchise has always been the villains, who have remarkable personalities and traits. As much as their plans are almost never effective, they are charismatic and attract attention. In case of 007 Against Specter, the villain Franz Oberhauser (lived by the great actor Christopher Waltz) lacks this striking force, as it only proves itself and is dangerous with attitudes that do not happen on screen. In addition to referring to the previous features to give luggage to your dangerousness, everything around is much more talked about than done. Which takes away the fun of the film.

At the end of the session, the theme song plays and we left excited. After all, it's James Bond! The brand has a very high intrinsic quality and a very strong emotional appeal. But Agent 007’s new adventure falls short, especially after its predecessor, Operation Skyfall. Visually, the film is superb and Sam Mendes manages to direct exciting and aesthetically beautiful action scenes. A pity that the script does not manage to reach the same level.
