Heiress to a firearms company, Sarah Winchester (Helen Mirren) is convinced that she is haunted by the dead souls through the Winchester family's rifle. After the sudden deaths of her husband and son, she decides to build a mansion to keep the spirits away, and upon evaluating it, psychiatrist Eric Price (Jason Clarke) realizes that maybe her obsession isn't as insane as it seems.
The film that hits Brazilian theaters on March 1st is beyond a horror story like the others. Inspired by a true story and which has been the backdrop for many videos on Youtuber, chorus of music from urban Legion and name of Winchester brothers on the show SupernaturalThe Winchester House Mage brings a debate about the use of firearms.

She brought the Winchester 22
The weapon that his cousin Pablo gave him” Faroeste Caboclo

By the way, the weapon used by the brothers in Supernatural, Colt, is a brand. THE Colt's Manufacturing Company, is an American firearms manufacturer, founded in 1855 by Samuel Colt. It is the successor corporation to the Colt's advance efforts to make firearms since 1836. Winchester, which gives the name of the brothers, is also a brand. THE Winchester Repeating Arms Company, repeating weapons manufacturer, was founded by oliver winchester also in 1855 in New Haven, U.S. It is currently headquartered in Morgan, Utah. It is best known for the production of winchester rifle. In addition to being the brand name, the Winchester House inspired the family surname of Dean and Sam.

The Colt from the Supernatural series is actually a Paterson model, created in 1836, in the 19th century.

The plot takes place in the Victorian-style mansion that is known for its size, its architectural curiosities and its total lack of a building plan. With 160 rooms, built over decades and without planning, it is now a popular tourist attraction. It's full of labyrinths with corridors, stairs that lead nowhere, 2,000 doors – some of them that open on walls and can even end in places you can fall down – 47 chimneys, towers, among so many things, that is. something really supernatural! The mansion is in San Jose, California, which was once the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of the arms magnate, William Wirt Winchester. It is located in the 525 South Winchester Blvd and is a historic landmark of California, being protected by the National Register of Historic Places.
Its construction began in 1884, under Sarah's command, after her husband's death in 1881, and construction only stopped on September 5, 1922, with the death of the widow. The reason it was built was actually the film's synopsis, to keep the ghosts dead with Winchester Rifles.

The film
Horror movies always address more than meets the eye. With social critiques that outweigh the common dramas accepted by society, this genre is often a slap in the face in our way of life.
AND The Curse of House Winchester uses every legend surrounding the mansion to debate the use of firearms. And this is not a new or just US-focused discussion, but anywhere on the planet. Massacres, accidental deaths, suicides, among others, happen daily anywhere and it is not exclusive to gender, race, creed and social status.
With questions like “firearms are to blame”, “firearms are dangerous”, “it's not the guns that are the real danger, but who uses them”, “a weapon only becomes dangerous for the reasons used”, the film brings no answer. He just gives the question and during his story leaves it up to the viewer to find their point of view.

Sarah is totally against and sees as a curse the weapons created by her company, but jokes that the creation of skates is also a danger.

The actors' acting is not bad. They pass on your doubts and have great interpretations. Jason Clarke, who plays Dr. Price, delivers a character not striking, but solid and embittered with his tragic past.
The film cannot escape clichés with its jump scare and the loud sounds during these scares. At first, this concept is even accepted, as Jason's character is still getting acquainted with this new world. But as the film progresses, this becomes tiresome.
Same with events. The excessive use of showing certain objects and dialogs practically gives away the whole plot. If it had only been shown twice at most, it would have left the viewer in for a bigger surprise. As well as some ghostly characters that appear at the end and that have no relation to the plot, unless they appear and that's it.
Anyway, The Winchester House Mage it's a good movie and worth checking out! These downsides don't spoil the fun and aura that surrounds the mansion and its legend. He manages to give some scares at the beginning, bring an involvement with the characters and surprises with others.

The house, even though it doesn't present a way for a person to feel trapped or lost, is still surprising in the film. The character Sarah at times seems to be a terrifying person, but is seen in a different way by her employees, which brings doubts to those who are watching. The same for Clark's character, who is not only a psychiatrist, but also an addict. What makes him an interesting character, as he will often be in doubt about his professionalism, whether what he sees is the result of drugs, the place or his own sanity due to his past. A great approach.
And let the curtains go up! To the next!!
