Based on the books by Anna Todd, After hits theaters as yet another teen romance with the well-known premise of the innocent girl- Tessa Young (Josephine Langford), who falls in love with a bad boy (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) and decides to leave her boyfriend and the life of a good girl to be with him.

If the unoriginal plot doesn't draw attention right away, the way it was executed gives the film a negative sentence. Incoherent and full of clichés, the plot does not hold to events and leaves all the relevant issues that could be addressed in the air.

Clearly there was a lot to be shown, Anna Todd tackles the issue of abusive relationship, coming of age and parenting issues in her book, but the effort to turn the film into a youth romance and fill it with corny, predictable scenes inhibited the important parts. The result was “more of the same”. This makes the script incoherent, seeming incomplete, and the plot does not justify its proposal, making the production nothing more than a lot of staring scenes and others that refer to dubious sensual moments.

The construction of the characters is also flawed. Full of stereotypes, it features a bad boy who has nothing “bad”, just wears black and has tattoos, but is an intellectual always willing to help who has mysterious problems with his father, a roommate who is “problem” for going to parties and liking women and other concepts that border on prejudice.

Perhaps because of the aforementioned clichés, perhaps because of the lack of talent, the performances do not convince. It is a parade of characters that make no difference and not even with the protagonists it is possible to create some kind of empathy.

After ends up being a very flawed production. Without showing its objective, full of clichés and a totally irrelevant plot, the film is empty and forgettable.
