Criticism | Carnival Row - Season 1

To watch Carnival Row is to enjoy a great fantasy series, such for fans of the genre not to put any defect. Everything in the production is interesting to follow and although it takes place in an old period of history, I did not understand - taking into account that some series, books, films and / or period novels, become boring due to the poor use in which the plot is inserted.

What is not the case with the original series Amazon. Starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, Carnival Row is the best choice for those who enjoy the genre productions with the right to a wonderful British accent. By the setting, it is possible to understand that the plot takes place almost at the end of the 18th century in Burgue, fictional neo-Victorian city that resembles an old London.

In fact, it is not just the English capital that resembles something that exists. It's like Carnival Row was set in the same universe of Sherlock Holmes, character of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - and visually, the films of the same name, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

The plot reminds Brightoriginal film Netflix starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton, where humans coexist with “enchanted” beings. And that's exactly what is shown in the show: fairies, satyrs, fauns, centaurs and other magical creatures interacting with humans and with similar habits.

However, humans no longer want such creatures to live among them and for that to be no longer possible, physical aggression and name calling are used in an attempt to intimidate them. Translating into a current context, Carnival Row addresses the differences and how others deal with them, xenophobia, prejudice, immigration, the search for another place with the intention of starting over (refugees) and that most of the time, result in deaths.

It is at that moment that the detective Rycroft "Philo" Philostrate (Orlando Bloom) appears in order to investigate such deaths and, in fact, exterminate the whole problem. At a certain point in history, he will meet with Vignette (Cara Delevingne) and an event X will surface - and revealing certain details from that moment on will imply spoiler and in fact, it will compromise your experience in following the show.

The special effects are incredibly detailed and more than that, realistic. And if you are going to compare this specific item with other productions of the same genre (fantasy) and that use these same devices, Carnival Row makes school and visually, it is a gift for the viewer's eyes. Linked to the costumes, soundtrack and scenography, it is a complete package.

Meanwhile, Carnival Row is a series that entertains and sends the desired message from the conception of the project. And long before the premiere, the plot has already won a second season, which demonstrates that both the technical team (creators, writers, producers and directors) as well as itself Amazon Prime Video bet on the promising series that has debut scheduled for the next August 30 in the catalog streaming.
