Criticism | Hebe The Star of Brazil

Hebe Camargo! The lady of Brazilian television and without a doubt, to this day, 7 years after her death, is still the main female name of a style that she practically created.

His irreverence, smile, catchphrases and audacity were reasons for several fights against censorship at the time and also internal fights behind the scenes of the stations where he worked.

The film deals precisely with this part, with the transition that the country passed from dictatorship to democracy. They were troubled years where no one knew for sure how to deal with it all. Mostly on TV.

And Hebe appears to set the tone for how Brazil should be, without sides – as well placed in the film. Legality -, where all are Brazilians. And citizens with a lot of problems.

Through the narrative, we see the transition of the presenter along with the nation. She not only modifies her program to impact, but impacts every person who sees her program, when she addresses topics such as AIDS, which at that time was disowned as a subject by the Federal Government, how people treated artists and others with disdain calling them “Gay”, with an ironic, snobbish and prejudiced way.

Crítica | Hebe A Estrela do Brasil 1
The film brings debates such as transsexuality, but does not have the audacity of the presenter to make the viewer understand more about the subject.

But unfortunately, the film does not have this audacity in dealing more deeply with the social problems of the time, which are still so present today, preferring to only superficially address these issues and only showing the presenter's programs.

This is not all bad, because the characterization and the way the director presents it in a subtle way and showing only physical details of each one, is exciting. And exciting is the life that actress Andrea Beltrão showed on screen.

Crítica | Hebe A Estrela do Brasil 2
Andrea Beltrão alongside Daniel Boaventura, who plays Silvio Santos.

She dives into Hebe, that is, she is Hebe.

Hebe A Estrela do Brasil is a film that appears in good time, to keep alive the memory and work of artists who made Brazilian television, but which unfortunately does not show a little more of Hebe's youth, of how she grew up, fought against prejudice, domestic violence, among other subjects to become A Estrela do Brasil.

The movie takes 3 out of 5 lives!

And let the curtains go up! To the next!
