Michaela Coel has already become known for her work in Chewing Gum, gives Netflix, and now moves house to make the next hit of HBO, I May Destroy You.

Based on the abuse she suffered, Michaela does an impressive job serving as showrunner, screenwriter and protagonist of the production's 12 episodes. The plot follows what happened, going through the moment when Annabella (Coel) was drugged and sexually abused until the investigation and all the problems involved in such a complaint.

Using a fragmented narrative, which places the audience in an immersive experience, conveying the same feeling that the protagonist is feeling, I May Destroy advances in Bella's post-abuse life in parallel with the complaint, delving deeper into the emotional relationships and traumas left over from this event, while taking the opportunity to show numerous small abuses that women normally suffer, which give several warning notices that they are possibly going through this situation.

However, the real gold of this work is also investing in abuses suffered by men, represented here by the homosexual friend kwame (Paapa Essiedu), which warns about men also suffering rape and the difficulty for them to report and be taken seriously in these situations. But this plot does not live only on abuse, there are many racial prejudices included in the events, mainly carried by Terry (Weruche Opia), Bella's best friend who carries a lot of baggage in her simple character, presenting her internal struggle for having to change herself to be accepted by society, her psychological issues with abandonment and raising the debate of a situation with consent, which may or may not be seen as rape.

I May Destroy You It's a series that goes far beyond what words can put. Among many layers, many relevant situations addressed and subjects almost unheard of on television, Michaela manages to do a beautiful juggling of complaints that leaves the viewer in shock at the end of the plot, needing to digest everything that he did not know existed outside his comfort zone.
