Based on the homonymous youth work written by John Bellaris, arrives at the cinemas The Mystery of the Clock on the Wall, with the proposal of being a horror for children.

The feature features Lewis Barnavelt (Owen Vaccaro), who after the death of his parents ends up having to live with his eccentric uncle Jonathan (Jack Black). In his different house, he discovers that his uncle and the neighbor Mrs. Zimmermann (Cate Blanchett) are sorcerers and need to avoid a huge danger that threatens the place.

Investing in more impressionistic scenes, The Mystery of the Clock on the Wall in fact it stands out as a childish horror, with moments that promise to elicit some strong reactions from children. The setting, especially the mansion, and the quality photography really create a more tense atmosphere, which amidst the spells, generate the necessary mystery.

However, the script of the person responsible for Supernatural, erick kripke, presents some slips that contrast with this atmosphere, making the film more childish than it should to hold this tension. Some meaningless decisions made by the characters may even be acceptable to children, but they will certainly turn out to be quite inconsistent for adults.

The cast sets the pace, which is obviously very well driven by the great performances of Blanchet and Black. Little Vaccaro, on the other hand, ends up not being so convincing, going nothing to the extreme in his emotions.

The Mystery of the Wall Clock it pleases with a children's work, serving as a good pastime also for adults, however, for these, it will not be very important.
