The plot is set against the background of an oil platform where Roberto works, who created strong bonds of friendship. An unexpected promotion, however, undermines the stability of his professional relationships at a time when he is also experiencing a serious family crisis.

The Eye and the Knife it's a movie Paulo Sacramento, which tries to give a dramatic tone, but which gets lost in the course of the film. The cast is good and the plot has points that could have been addressed in a better way. Rodrigo Lombardi interprets Roberto as a dedicated professional who has been standing out. We see in the beginning a faithful and authentic friendship between Roberto and Wagner, lived by Roberto Birindelli, who understand each other and already have a long friendship. The interaction with other colleagues is present and as a whole, they are great friends, a family. However, everything changes when Roberto finds himself facing a promotion. The one who, in the view of colleagues, would prove to be a good Operational Manager became part of the machine's gear called “power”.

Roberto starts to make gross mistakes and that person that his colleagues admired, seems to have been lost. In large companies, this happens frequently. How many times a close and engaged colleague who shows a certain empathy changes when promoted. This shows how much it is necessary to manage professionals so that they become responsible and are part of a fair and committed leadership with their followers. We see that part of the rejection on the part of the companions comes from the company's unpreparedness in training him, in offering support for him to be a good Manager. Due to this type of behavior, companies lose many employees who work well because they do not know how to manage people. And what we see in the film is exactly that, each one retreats as he can.

O Olho e a Faca
Wagner Roberto's closest friend / HBO

Just as your new journey at work is difficult, your personal life is in chaos. His wife is almost always dissatisfied. His wife, played by Maria Luisa Mendonça is limited to your character. Expressive and constantly annoyed by the lack of something, the character does not have a captivating presence. The eldest son is rebellious and demonstrates a great revolt. The father is missing. They don't talk, they don't have a relationship. It is different with the youngest son. They have a father-son relationship. If they understand, they complete each other. It is too much attention for one and too much distance for the other. Another troubled relationship is with your father. Roberto does not have a good relationship with his father, who is soon hospitalized and the reason for this is not explained explicitly. This situation seems to have been played. To end the story, Roberto has an affair with the character played by Débora Nascimento that might as well have been portrayed otherwise. What we can understand from the sex scene between them and the scene in which she is talking and Roberto doesn't pay attention to what she says, is that she is just a diversion.

Although the film is fraught with social problems that occur in many family nuclei, the script and direction deal superficially. At all times, at random, we see the platform's accident plaque along with flashbacks of an accident that marked the tankers team. However, it remains to explain this to the viewer. In a way, the production tries to show Roberto's failure and in the process we see him in situations where he is beside himself, thinking about other things, as if he were going crazy, paranoid. The crow is put to represent a metaphor, the bad times. But, this also does not make sense for those who watch. Again, some devices have a good idea, however, the execution is uncertain and generates discomfort in those who hope to delight in a proposal that seems to be innovative at the beginning and is lost in the process.

Finally, with a “lame” script The Eye and the Knife even with negative and superficial points at certain times, it is a production that deserves to be watched because it addresses neglect, fantasy and dreams, friendships, the relationship between leader and team member, the work routine and all this culminates in a psychotic breakdown where we see someone who seeks mental and emotional balance, but is too tormented to follow.
