Inspired by the eponymous short of 2019, She Paradise premieres on November 19th showing the search for sparkle for a career in dance.

Directed and written by Maya Cook, the feature follows the 17-year-old girl sparkle (Onessa Nestor), who lives in a precarious situation with her grandfather after being abandoned by her mother. Tired of going through difficulties, she decides to try a career as Soca Dancer when faced with a selective process.

Going far beyond dancing, the plot invests in Sparkle's growth. Being the Clump a very sensual modality, the protagonist goes through the loss of her innocence, both in relation to the childlike way she behaved, as well as her virginity. Suffering from her grandfather's disapproval of the way the dancers behave, she also draws a parallel between conservatism and the exaggeration of children's exposure, while learning to lie to get what she wants, including for her family.

As events progress, a bit of the dancers' culture is introduced, delving into the difficulty each one goes through, as most have had family problems, and how they act as a group, once inside that core, Sparkle needs to act like them , but also begins to have emotional and financial support.

In a subject like this, it is practically impossible to leave aside the controversy of rape that surrounds the music business, especially when it refers to an Afrodescent nucleus that sells sensuality. This is very well addressed in the film, organically following the events that will lead to it and, without abusing sensational scenes, exposing how this practice is still common in this field.

She Paradise presents a simple story of a dancer trying to find her way, but delves into interesting cultures and critics that deserve to be exposed that greatly increase the quality of the production.
