Based on the bestseller by Jack Carr, the plot accompanies James Reece (Pratt) after his Navy team is ambushed during a high-stakes covert operation. Reece returns home to his family with mixed memories of the event and doubts about his responsibilities. However, as new evidence emerges, Reece discovers that dark forces are working against him, putting not only his life at risk, but the lives of those he loves as well.
Among several moments of action, shots and fights, the series presents an interesting suspense involving a government conspiracy theory that leaves the protagonist in doubt at various times, as well as the spectator, who follows the events through Reece's eyes and memories. When the mission's information doesn't match the superiors' data, the plot leads to the belief that Reece is being manipulated. However, when deaths start happening and the protagonist doesn't seem to agree with them, some conflicting information makes him and the audience question his sanity. It is this duality that creates the tense atmosphere of the production, sharpening curiosity by delivering several conflicting moments, all plausible from the outside, giving a huge touch of suspense to the events.
The script works very well to balance this information, delivering moments where a dangerous headbanging can put Reece's ability in doubt, in contrast to questionable government actions that raise the protagonist's morale. At other times, Reece's actions show that a possible suicide could have been easily faked, but it is exposed in a way that shows his knowledge of applying this method and leads again to question the protagonist's sanity.
With eight episodes of about 50 minutes each, the first season of The Terminal List it can become tiring at times, especially when the long action scenes overlap theories, which are the elements that really hold attention, easily highlighting the shots and beatings on screen. Eventually, some genre clichés appear, breaking the narrative magic a bit.
The performances are very convincing, both from Pratt and the supporting cast, which in this case serves as a strategy for every point that the script tries to prove, in the eyes of other people, the information can change a lot.
