As fans around the world celebrate the 30th anniversary from the unforgettable 1991 animation classic, the Disney + gave the green light for a new music series, Beauty and the Beast (provisional title), of the Disney Branded Television and ABC Signature.
The prequel will be starring Luke Evans (the alienist) and Josh Gad (Frozen 2), which will repeat the roles of Gaston and LeFou, and presents Briana Middleton (The Tender Bar) how Tilly, the half sister of LeFou.
Beauty and the Beast is developed, written and has executive production of Gad, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (era uma vez), which will also act as showrunners from the series. The series' creative team also includes the nominee director for the Tony Awards Liesl Tommy (Eclipsed, Respect: The Story of Aretha Franklin), who will be executive director and direct the first episode.
The project's original soundtrack will be developed by Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony winning composer, Alan Menken, who will also act as executive producer, and the lyrics of the songs for the first episode will be the lyricist Glenn Slater (Tangled). Production will begin in the spring of the northern hemisphere in 2022.
Set in the iconic realm of Beauty and the Beast, years before the epic romance, the series will revolve around Gaston and LeFou as they set off on a journey with LeFou's stepsister Tilly after a startling revelation about their past, launching the trio on an unexpected journey filled with romance, comedy and adventures. As the mysteries of the past are uncovered and the dangers of the present increase, old friends and new enemies reveal that this well-known realm hides many secrets.
