O Starzplay, international premium streaming service from Starz, today announced that the long-awaited limited series Dr. Death premieres on September 12th exclusively in Belgium, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, UK and Latin America. The series will make its French debut at the Seriesmania festival in Lille, France, on August 30th.
Based on the successful American podcast from wondery, Dr. Death tells the scary true story of Dr. Christopher Duntsch (Joshua Jackson), a rising star in the Dallas medical community. Young, charismatic and ostensibly brilliant, Dr. Duntsch was building a thriving neurosurgery clinic when everything suddenly changed. Patients entered his operating room for complex but routine spinal surgery and left permanently mutilated or dead. As the victims huddled together, two medical colleagues, neurosurgeon Robert Henderson (Alec Baldwin) and vascular surgeon Randall Kirby (Christian Slater), as well as Dallas prosecutor, Michelle Shugart (AnnaSophia Robb), decide to stop him. Dr. Death explores Dr. Duntsch's twisted mind and the flaws of the system designed to protect the most helpless among us.
Dr. Death stars Jackson (Little Fires Everywhere, The Affair, When They See Us) as the title character, Grace Gummer (Mr. Robot, The Hot Zone), AnnaSophia Robb (The Act, Little Fires Everywhere), with Alec Baldwin (A Star is Born, 30 Rock, Saturday Night Live) and Christian Slater (Dirty John, Mr. Robot).
The series has a steering team completely made up of women, including Maggie Kiley (Dirty John), who will also executive produce the first two episodes; Jennifer Morrison (Euphoria) and So Yong Kim (Tales from the Loop, Room 104).
Produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, Dr. Death has executive production of Patrick Macmanus via your producer Littleton Road Productions, under its general contract with the UCP. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and Taylor Latham are also executive producers by Escape Artists, as Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy by Wondery.
