There are countless works on the legend of Hercules, the son of Zeus, even this year we had more than one semi-god movie coming to theaters. These works usually focus on explaining the legend, on how Hercules was born, the fruit of passion between Zeus and a mortal, the jealousy of Ivy and the hero doing the 12 jobs his stepmother resigned.

In this new Hercules, the focus is just the opposite. The legend is properly explained, boiling down to what is necessary for general understanding, but we see the character much more human than Mythic. This different approach was an interesting differentiator, as it is a little more original to see Hercules and his bloodthirsty companions perform mercenary tasks after doing the 12 jobs, than seeing the famous passage through them.

Haunted by tragedies from his past, Hercules (Dwayne Johnson) starts performing bloody services in exchange for money, with the help of his 5 friends: Amphiaraus (Ian McShane), A Prophet; Autolycus (Rufus Sewell), his childhood friend who accompanies Hercules from an early age in his battles; Atalanta (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal), a powerful archer warrior; Tydeus (Aksel Hennie), rescued as a child by Hercules, is a strong warrior who resembles an animal and Iolaus (Reece Ritchie), his storytelling nephew who makes his legend grow. The group is hired by a Thracian conductor (John Hurt) and your daughter (Rebecca Ferguson) to defeat an enemy that terrorizes the kingdom. Now, Hercules will prove whether his legend is true or not.

Hercules it is far from the best work of the Semi-God ever done, but it is also far from being the worst. It is exactly in the middle. It has many action scenes, as you would expect in this type of production, but they are much milder and shorter. The duration of the film is also short, which helps not to become tiring, sinning in the excess of battles and blood flying on the screen, however the economy in the script hurts a little by letting everything happen too quickly, that famous “exposed the problem and solved in 5 minutes."

The comic touches can seem strange in an epic adventure, excess of smiles is really something that is out of style, but it can count as another differential of the film.

The feature makes up for the action and beauty in the production. As a new plot focused on Hercules it may not please, but it serves to amuse and see good fight scenes.
