I May Destroy You, which debuts in June on HBO and on HBO GO, explores the issue of sexual consent in contemporary life and how, in the current scenario of encounters and relationships, the distinction is made between freedom and exploitation. Frank and provocative, the series is created, scripted, executive produced and starred by BAFTA Award-winner, Michaela Coel.
Arabella Essiuedu (Coel) is a distracted, uncompromising and carefree young writer who, after a successful piece that attracted a lot of attention on the internet, is proclaimed the “voice of her generation”. She now has a literary agent, has a contract and is under immense pressure. When she is sexually assaulted in a nightclub, her life changes irreversibly and Arabella is forced to reevaluate everything: her career, friends and even her family. As she struggles to come to terms with what has happened, she begins a journey of self-discovery.
The series also brings in the cast Weruche Opia ('Inside No. 9'), Paapa Essiedu ('Kiri'), Aml Ameen ('Yardie'), Adam James ('Belgravia'), Sarah Niles ('Catastrophe'), Ann Akin ('Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams'), Harriet Webb ('Plebs'), Ellie James ('Giri / Haji'), Franc Ashman ('Peep Show'), Karan Gill ('Bloody Conquest), Natalie Walter ('Horrible Histories') and Samson Ajewole.
