the players of Magic: The Gathering (MTG) are used to visiting different planes of the game's multiverse, and have even traveled through famous pop culture universes, such as The Walking Dead, Godzilla and my little pony. But, starting in 2022, they will start a whole new journey with Universes Beyond, a series that combines MTG gameplay with stories, characters and brands loved by millions of people around the world, such as Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40,000.

According to Wizards of the Coast, Universes Beyond will be a new arm within Magic: The Gathering and will coexist with traditional trading card game products. Created with the intention of expanding the MTG story beyond the game system, the new feature will allow current players to explore crossovers in other media as well, such as comics, books and even games. At the same time, it will be an opportunity to bring MTG to more people through series with large fan communities.

Universes Beyond collections will have a different look, with a stamp foil identification and a frame of their own, but they will be Magic cards in their entirety, similar to what you already see in Secret Liar sets. Occasionally there may even be standalone products, as was the case in The Walking Dead collection, but as a rule they will be available just like any other Magic product.

The new Universes Beyond cards will not be usable in Standard format and will not interfere with standard cast cadence. For now, they will be products reserved for crossovers with universes that were not developed by Wizards of the Coast, and therefore, Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, first MTG set set in the universe of Dungens & Dragons, will not be part of Universes Beyond.
