A very subtle comedy, aesthetically beautiful, colorful and captivating. In a nutshell, this is the best way to describe the director's new work Wes Anderson, The Grand Budapest Hotel (The Grand Budapest Hotel).
The most striking attraction of The Grand Budapest Hotel is production. In addition to the already mentioned color of the film (there is practically no shade of gray in it), which together with the characters with exaggerated characteristics give the film a cartoon face, the photography and old costumes are the real highlights of the film.
Based on texts by the Austrian poet Stefan Zweig , The Grand Budapest Hotel tells us, with one narrative within the other, as Moustafa (F. Murray Abraham) became the owner of Hotel Budapest. Starting with the scene that shows a girl holding the book “The Grand Hotel Budapest”, we are taken to an interview narrated by Moustafa to a young writer (Jude Law), which takes us back to 1932 where Moustafa was known as the Youth Zero (Tony Revolori ), and had just become a hotel courier.
Zero begins to develop a more intimate relationship with the Hotel concierge, Monsieur Gustave (Ralph Fiennes), which ends up changing your life. From then on, the two are always together, which shows how perfect the chemistry between the actors was. The newcomer Revolori played a very well-played role, along with Fiennes who only confirmed his talent with his interesting character who maintains relationships with several wealthy and lonely ladies staying at the hotel. The relationship between the two characters is very clear, showing affection between them but with Mrs. Gustave always making it clear that Zero is a subordinate.
After the death of one of these ladies, we are introduced to the villains, also characterized as Cartoons, Adrien Brody and Willem Dafoe are the ones that stand out the most. Some quick appearances by celebrities add a special touch to the work, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Owen Wilson among others, they appear in short scenes just to 'up' the script.
Fun and attractive, The Grand Budapest Hotel it's a nice movie to watch. The impression I have is that it doesn't matter the plot, the success is in the visual production, the story becomes a background in this unique case.
The Grand Budapest Hotel opens on January 22 in Brazilian cinemas.
