Disney+ has greenlit National Geographic's original three-part documentary series, On the Edge with Alex Honnold. Produced by Plimsoll Productions, On the Edge with Alex Honnold follows Alex Honnold embarking on a big dream: an epic climbing journey through the natural walls and most remote and difficult peaks of Greenland, a country on the front lines of the climate crisis.

Honnold, subject of intense Oscar-winning documentary® Free Soil (available now on Disney+), he has always dreamed of exploring Greenland and reaching the top of its most challenging and remote peaks. But he won't just embark on the adventure: along the way, as he attempts a once-in-a-lifetime climbing challenge that will test his physical limits, Honnold will meet the scientists working on the front lines of climate change and will also witness the impacts of rapid melting.

With an overabundance of climbing, with impossible, high-level and deadly natural walls, Greenland is considered the last great climbing frontier in the world and has become the severe test of the climate crisis. In 2020, 300 billion tonnes of Greenland's ice disappeared, the largest annual melt in recorded history. As you explore the impact that takes place, Honnold and his team will face intimidating icebergs, dangerous moulins (holes in glaciers), difficult rock collapses and ice storms.

Your final test will be Peak 3342, so far unclimbed and one of the highest peaks in Greenland. While there are exposed rocks and less snow and ice, this is uncharted territory and Honnold will need to leverage all his experience to get to the top safely.

“I've always wanted to climb in Greenland – it has some of the most remote and epic natural walls in the world. But it is also being tremendously affected by climate change.”, said Honnold. “I am very excited about the opportunity to explore climbing while also sharing some of the local impacts of climate change with a global audience. Our changing climate is the biggest issue facing humanity and I hope this will help inspire people to take action.”

Honnold is a professional adventure climber whose audacious solo ascents of America's greatest cliffs have made him one of the most recognized and followed climbers in the world. He is also founder of Honnold Foundation (Honnold Foundation), a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to fighting climate change by promoting solar energy for a fairer world. A talented but very dedicated athlete, Alex Honnold is known as much for his humble and modest demeanor as for the stunning cliffs he climbed without a rope to protect him in the event of a fall. Honnold was profiled by The New York Times, made the cover of National Geographic, appeared in international television commercials, and starred in numerous adventure films, including the Oscar-winning documentary® Free Soil, released by National Geographic Documentary Films, and the Emmy-nominated® Alone on The Wall. He is also the co-host and co-creator of the podcast. Climbing Gold.

On the Edge with Alex Honnold will be produced by Plimsoll Productions for National Geographic. For Plimsoll Productions, James SmithMartha Holmes and Grant Mansfield are the executive producers. For National Geographic, Bengt Anderson is executive producer and vice president of production and Alan Eyres is senior vice president of production and development.
