marking the return of Sarah Jessica Parker the television, Divorce portrays the problems of a faded marriage.

Twelve years after the end of sex and the city, the series for which Parker became famous, the actress returns to television in the new work by HBO which premieres this Sunday (9). At the invitation of HBO, we watched the first episode in the preview and shared our first impressions, no spoilers.

Divorce focuses on the wedding of French (Parker) and Robert (Thomas Haden Church). After witnessing a strange event that almost ends in death, Frances decides to change her life and ask for a divorce from her already broken marriage. This decision proves to be very complicated, as Robert doesn't accept it very well and, to make matters worse, the couple has two children who are not in the best of times with their mother. Analyzing several different situations, Frances spends the episode divided between following her decision or trying to get her marriage back on track.

The pilot turned out to be very interesting. Being a deep comedy, which deals with serious subjects, the script knew how to measure the comic scenes, placing them at strategic moments to alleviate some of the tension, but without affecting the dramatic weight of the scene.

The cast was very well chosen, Sarah Jessica Parker proves that she hasn't lost any of her talent, acting very well in the most demanding scenes, in complete harmony with Thomas Haden Church, who also shows his potential in this episode.

The plot of Sharon Horgan proves to be consistent and interesting, reporting a plausible everyday life, despite the characters' bizarre situations and attitudes. The jokes are inserted in funny situations and not in forced moments, making the episode naturally fun and with good content.

Divorce appears to be a promising series. This pilot showed future intentions for the season, as well as ending in an incredible way. There is no doubt about the quality of the original works HBO dealing with everyday situations (Girls and looking are good examples), so my bet is that Divorce will quickly fall into public favor.

The first season of Divorce will have 10 episodes and premiere this Sunday, October 9th, at midnight on the HBO channel, right after the broadcast of Westworld. The first episode will be available for free on HBO GO from October 10th.
