Manhattan Love Story

Romantic comedies never go out of style. Whether in movies or series, we always have that production where the girl with her personal problems meets the unconventional guy and after a lot of struggle, and a lot of problems, the two stay together and live happily ever after. I used to like this genre, until I realized that I watched the comedy part less and less and got stuck with the romance, which is always the same. Manhattan Love Story came to save my vision of romantic comedies, pleasing more than expected in this pilot.

Manhattan Love Story tells the saga of Dana (Analeigh Tipton), a girl who has just moved to New York. Your friend Amy (Jade Catta-Preta) arranges for Dana to meet her brother-in-law Peter (Jake McDorman), the typical New York stallion. Add to that the fact that Dana is extremely clumsy and we have the perfect formula for a sugar-water comedy.

Reading this premise, it seems to be another one of those productions about a couple that only pleases fans of the theme, doesn't it? But in reality, it is not so! Even with the dirty theme, Manhattan Love Story stands out among the others. The chemistry between the protagonist couple, the great photography, the perfect construction of the secondary characters and being a comedy that actually manages to get a laugh help, and a lot, in this highlight. But I think the real merit is in the narration of thoughts. Right at the beginning of the episode we are surprised by these thoughts, which fit perfectly into the plot and, not infrequently, we identify with them.

This pilot was very well constructed, making the intention of the series and its characters very clear. The theme does not guarantee that it will last a long time, but if they don't try to extend it for longer than they should, it promises to be one of those productions that stay in the memory for many years.

PS: Amy at the beginning of the episode says a "Perfect". I was impressed with the expression and went looking for a little bit about the actress Jade Catta-Pretta, I discovered that she is Brazilian! It's always good to discover another Brazilian talent around the world.
