There are more than 22 years of Ethan Hunt starring in his famous adventures. Are you a little lost in chronology? Check out the Mission Impossible timeline below.

Since 1996, the franchise Mission Impossible is a success. Now the sixth film hits theaters, Mission: Impossible- Fallout Effect, of which you can see the review on here.

But what makes Mission Impossible one of the best action series in current movies?

In addition to the charisma of its protagonist, Tom Cruise, without a doubt we can highlight the scenes that are theoretically “Impossible” to happen. But not so much, as they were all made by the actor. Of course with security devices, but even so, they are scenes with a lot of recklessness and madness. A bet against your character's life. And this is what defines the character Ethan Hunt: a madman with a lot of recklessness and a gambler, as said since the third feature.

This seems to be the recipe for Mission Impossible. To differentiate itself from other films, when something “impossible” is about to happen, the script presents all the factors that make it unique:

1. The nature of the mission, which is the challenge for the hero;
2. Open and extravagant scenes that remind the viewer that they are seeing something Impossible;
3. Present the rules for the Mission, which shows how reckless it is, such as not stepping on the ground, lack of time, holding the air for at least 3 minutes, slowly climbing a building, among others;
4. And the consequences if it all goes wrong.

The genre, which mixes action with espionage, started on the North American network CBS in 1966 and ended in 1973. For most of the series, Peter Graves represented the leader of this agency, Jim Phelps. Graves was the only actor from the original cast to participate in the 1980s relaunch of the series, Mission: Impossible (1988 series), this time aired by ABC.

In Brazil, the series was broadcast in 1966, with the dubbing work carried out by the now extinct Arte Industrial Cinematográfica (AIC), and later by Álamo. For some years, Missão Impossível was broadcast by Rede Bandeirantes.

Among the stars who went through the series, it can be highlighted Leornard Nimoy, who performed “The Great Paris” from 1969 to 1971.

the timeline

It can be said that the first two films are independent of the other 4. The first serves as a presentation of the universe and characters, mainly Ethan Hunt.

The second, the weakest as described above, had many problems and still managed to give Tom Cruise the award for best actor at the MTV Movie Awards, in addition to having completely innovated in the opening theme of the film.

The third starts the events that we've been checking out so far. The film maintains the action, brings a little more depth to the character, presenting the dilemmas of a double life.

The fourth, which starts to have a subtitle, Ghost Protocol, it's fun and addictive. The “Impossible” scenes begin to bring a breath-taking degree to the fans. The verticality that started in the first movie with Ethan descending just a few feet off the ground is now many floors above.

Secret Nation, when he arrived at the cinema, came with many doubts from critics and fans, thinking that Tom Cruise was already too old for the role, besides stating that the franchise could already start to tire. An error. The fifth film proved to be one of the best so far. The scene of Ethan invading the plane in mid-flight shows how the star is as crazy as the character. And maybe a lot more.

And finally the Fallout Effect arrives! The film brings new landscapes to the series, continuing the great mystery that surrounds this universe. Mission Impossible manages to maintain the coherence of previous films and their events. And the main thing: it doesn't show that it will end anytime soon!

The movies not to get lost!
