Team Soniqs, from the USA, won the 6th Weekly Final and won the PUBG Global Invitational.S (PGI.S), international championship of PUBG held in South Korea, adding up to the amount of US$ 1,296 million received during the competition.
Zenith Esports, also North American, took 2nd place during the last round and pocketed just over US$ 1 million. The 3rd place went to the South Korean Gen.G, who added the amount of US$ 928 thousand.
The Paraguayan Meta Gaming, owned by Brazilian player Pedro “sparkingg” Ribeiro, had a good campaign and finished the competition in 7th place, winning US$ 389,359.
Based in the city of Incheon and with the participation of 32 teams, the PGI.S was eight weeks long, with weekly disputes earning cash prizes. Initially, the total prize pool was estimated at US$ 3.5 million (R$ 20 million). With crowdfunding through the sale of in-game items, the amount exceeded US$ 7 million (R$ 40 million).
In the 6th and final Weekly Final, the 16 teams that qualified through the Weekly Survival competed for US$ 1 million in prizes. With the leaderboard balanced, the title was open.
During the round, Soniqs scored 90 points, of which 56 for eliminations of opponents. The Americans won one of the matches and placed 2nd in three other games.
In the last confrontation, with the title still undefined, Soniqs fell in 5th place, but had 12 kills - the largest number obtained by the team over the weekend -, which ensured the tip of the Weekly Final, with a difference of 11 points over 2nd place, Zenith Esports, with 79.
With the result, Soniqs got the 1st place in the PGI.S and the runner-up title went to also North American Zenith Esports.
The Latin American Meta Gaming did well and won the 7th place, driven by the excellent performance in the 5th Weekly Final, when it got the 2nd place and reached the top 3 of the PGI.S. This sixth week, the team did not win any of the 16 Weekly Survival takedowns and did not qualify for the Weekly Final.
The Brazilian FURIA, another representative of Latin America in the PGI.S, was in 26th place, with US$ 51,512 collected. The team also did not participate in the 6th Weekly Final.
