Since the first photo of Eddie Redmayne woman dress for her role in The Danish girl, anxiety arose among moviegoers. After the incredible role that Eddie played in The theory of everything, the simple news of the actor being in such a deep work already creates many positive expectations.

It is with great joy that I inform you that these expectations have been fulfilled. The Danish girl (The Danish Girl) impresses in all aspects, beautifully narrating the complicated situation of a man who would like to be a woman.

Based on eponymous book of David Ebershoff, the film tells the real story of Einar Wegener (Redmayne), a renowned painter happily married to Gerda (Alicia Vikander). When encouraged by his wife to play a game and go to a party dressed as a woman, Einar creates Lily and ends up discovering that she has always lived inside him. Gradually, Lily dominates her personality, until he finds himself no longer wanting to be the man he once was, but to assume The Danish Girl.

It is impressive to see the transformation of Redmayne, from the sensible and loving man to a woman. It is not just the make-up and costumes that transform the character, but the small feminine hints in Einar that are increasing subtly until everything in him has changed, from the way of speaking to the way of walking. Redmayne once again shows all his talent.

But the merit is not all for him, Vikander reveals a pleasant surprise, showing all the despair that a wife would feel in such a situation. Gerda is for sure the best woman that anyone can have and loves him so much that he ends up supporting his decision, staying by his side at all times, without giving any necessary care.

A Garota Dinamarquesa

It is worth mentioning, without giving any spoilers, that Einar Wegener was the first person to have a sex change surgery, in 1920. Tom Hooper (The King's Speech, The Miserable), which has already collected nominations for the best director, again showed his talent in portraying this beautiful story.

At a time when transsexualism is gaining its place in society, The Danish girl it becomes very opportune to better understand the reason for someone to change sex. Without using unnecessary dramas, the film breaks many taboos in an exciting way. Get ready to cry again with Eddie Redmayne.
