Working outside the home while taking care of the home and children is an increasingly common situation in women's lives. We all know how complicated this is and that's exactly what's interesting about Joy- The Name of Success (Joy).

Joy (Jennifer Lawrence) since she was a child, she was very creative, but a family fight made her reprimand her abilities. 17 years later, Joy finds herself embittered by her ordinary life, with a broken marriage, two children to raise on her own, and constantly having to help clean up the mess her family makes. Until one day, after cutting herself by cleaning a broken glass, she comes up with the idea of inventing a different mop, to prevent people from touching the floor cloths, and so she decides to change her life, ventures into the business world and tries take your invention forward.

As usually happens in the works of David O. Russell, this quest for Joy is very intense and portrayed in a very realistic way. Don't expect to watch one of those movies where the person has an idea, shows the path they took to put it into practice, and presto, they lived happily ever after. Here, we have all the problems, common and uncommon, that can occur with a new project and when we think it's over, another boulder gets in the way. It's interesting to see Joy's relationships, the support of her family and the times when it got in her way, the outside help that was essential to her, and the people who tried to pull her rug. Nothing seems impossible or even difficult to happen, on the contrary, it seems routine.

Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro they repeat the successful partnership and as always, the harmony between them is wonderful, especially between Lawrence and De Niro, here acting as father and daughter. However, this partnership is also one of the problems of the film. Robert De Niro suffers from a serious case of “character erased” here, where it looks like he was cast only for credits, but his participation is minimal. The script, which approaches the business world in an interesting way, could have been much better without some very obvious holes in the way. The impression the work gives is one of decay throughout the plot, starting at the apex and getting worse as the story unfolds. These are small errors that reduce the quality of Joy- The Name of Success, even leaving the production tiring at times and again raising doubts about the nomination of Jennifer Lawrence.

Crítica: Joy- O Nome do Sucesso 1

Among the mistakes and successes, Joy- The Name of Success becomes an interesting work for only one audience: working women who struggle daily to make a name for themselves in the business world and identify with Joy. Therefore, opinions about the film become differentiated, depending a lot on the point of view of who is watching. Still, the problems in the script are aggravating for all audiences.

Nominating Jeniffer Lawrence for Best Actress at Oscar 2016, Joy- The Name of Success premieres this Thursday, 01/21, in Brazilian cinemas.
