The world of cinema is going through different phases. Over the years we went into a wave of adaptations, followed by a wave of remakes, and now we start with versions live-action of outstanding characters in our childhood. We recently had the live-action of Mogli- The Wolf Boy, retelling the story and origin of the Jungle Boy. For the future, we have promises of classics like Beauty and the Beast .

The Warner joined this wave, but decided to innovate a little and launched The Legend of Tarzan (The Legend of Tarzan), where, unlike the examples cited, the focus is not to retell the story, but to show us a completely new version of the character who is no longer a savage among gorillas but a Lord.

In The Legend of Tarzan, we don't see the man's journey to become the legend, but to return to his post. Living in London like Lord John Clayton III, Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgård) lives a simple life, trying to let go of the legend he has become, alongside his wife Jane (Margot Robbie). John receives a diplomatic mission from which he needs to return to Congo, not knowing that it is actually a plan of the Captain Rom (Christoph Waltz), a cold and greedy man who intends to deliver Tarzan to an enemy tribe in exchange for diamonds. Accompanied by Jane and the Dr. Williams (Samuel L. Jackson), he returns to his home to discover that other illegal practices are taking place and he needs to go back to being the savage he was to protect himself and his family.

A lenda de Tarzan

The premise is very original and works very well, but some mistakes were made along the way that harmed the quality of the feature. The realistic and dark way that Tarzan is portrayed set a different and interesting pace, however there is a feeling of something missing, as Tarzan's journey doesn't quite turn him back into the character we know so well and that ends up being a little disappointing.

The strong cast has great harmony, however the limitations of their characters prevented them from showing their full potential. Alexander Skarsgård plays very well, but his role ended up being very subtle, giving the impression of being more aimed at teen audiences than true Tarzan fans. Jane, who is portrayed as a woman who grew up in the wild, has become an ordinary schoolteacher, leaving little of her fearless side. Christoph Waltz delivers his villainous role very well, but there is a sense of sameness that the actor plays in the same type of role in his recent films.

On the other hand, David Yates managed to balance the dose of historical realism with a great adventure in a very satisfying way. The director knew how to use strategic cuts of scenes, from which he even shows the well-known origin of Tarzan in small f...lashbacks, in addition to natural lighting and effects that manage to represent Congo with a unique beauty, leaving the aesthetic practically impeccable, along with the photography of Henry Braham.

The Legend of Tarzan It's not a perfect movie, but it's currently the best retelling of a classic character. With a beautiful look and a very original plot, the feature leaves the flaws acceptable and becomes a good entertainment.
