Gayle Forman he has the talent to approach extremely serious subjects in a subtle way in his youth works. In I lost my way, the author returns to this narrative, presenting a story that takes place in just one day and seems very simple, but speaks of very serious personal problems of the characters.

The three protagonists meet by chance in a New York square. Freya falls in Nathaniel, with Harun witness and so their lives intersect. Each is experiencing a serious problem in his personal life, but when they meet, they get the support they need to face them.

Freya is a sub-celebrity, a promising young singer who has just lost her voice. She is afraid of being forgotten by fans when she is fired by her agent, just as her family seems to have forgotten her. Nathaniel is a young man who was raised by an immature father and after suffering several disappointments in his life, he is in New York with only a backpack, a desperate plan and absolutely nothing to lose. And Harun is a young man of Pakistani origin who does not have the courage to assume his sexual orientation for his traditional family and that is why he just lost the boyfriend he loves so much.

When they meet, they feel a great connection and it seems that all they needed was a little support to be able to face their dilemmas. That's Forman's big message in that book, where we can go far when we have some support. When we reach rock bottom, or lose track, it is only with the help of a loved one that we will overcome this phase.

Focusing on friendship, the author shows that sometimes a friend can love in ways that not even the family can. While the characters were in crisis with their respective families, it was the love of new acquaintances, who have a great connection, that gave the necessary strength to continue.

Gayle Forman's novels always convey a beautiful message, and present a very deep point of view about problems that are overlooked by society. I lost my way it is no exception to the rule, presenting a beautiful morality and exploring situations that may seem common, but can devastate a person when experienced.
