Daily works usually generate enormous empathy in the reader. There is a great chance of identifying with some of the difficulties that the characters go through - even if they are narrated at different times. And therein lies the real grace of these books.

Mudbound: Tears Over Mississippi it is a daily work, but it goes beyond. Set in 1941, the plot presents, through various points of view, the history of the McAllans family and their difficulties in Mississippi. Years after marrying Henry, Laura he ends up having to move to a cotton farm, a place where he is sure he will never be happy again. To worsen, Pappy, his father-in-law who has a bad temper, will move in with them. Amid all this, she still has to deal with the return Jamie, by those who begin to have some feelings.

While showing the family's life on the farm, through chapters narrated by each character, the book introduces new important people in the story. Addressing traumas, betrayals, machismo and racism, Mudbound: Tears Over Mississippi explores in depth the psychological of each character, showing how each one deals with the same situation.

“Sometimes it is necessary to do the wrong thing. Sometimes, doing wrong is the only way to make things right. ”

Hillary Jordan she does not need to get around to explaining her story, through a quick and direct narrative, the author presents the necessary points without using too many details, but without leaving any loose ends. However, suspense is present here. We are careful to start the book with a strong scene, of which we want to know how it happened, and which is remembered in detail during the plot. It is this scene that holds the reader in reading, since it escapes the basic daily life that could cause disinterest in some people.

The great merit of the work is certainly the way in which the author approaches controversial issues. By choosing to use the protagonists' narrative, Jordan is right to put racism and machismo as common, just as it was at the time. There is a much greater impact when seeing someone talking naturally about the absurdity, for example, of a “Creole walking in the passenger seat of a truck”.

Mudbound: Tears Over Mississippi approaches the different types of drama in the same way, showing that no matter what their situation, each has its problems. All of this leading to an impressive and exciting ending, with the right twists and turns and a beautiful way to finish the book the way it started.
