Ken Follett is a well-known thriller writer. His curriculum has several wonderful works, such as the Trilogy The century. Night Over the Waters it's a much simpler thriller than we're used to seeing from the author, but it's still a good book.

Set at the beginning of the Second World War in 1939, Night Over the Waters shows the lives of the crew of Clipper, a huge luxury seaplane that promises to cross the Atlantic in “just” 27 hours. For the time, it was incredibly modern. During the trip, we got to know more about each person's personal life and their current dilemmas. However, there is a bigger problem, one of the people on board is being manipulated by gangsters to disrupt the flight.

A great differentiator of Follett is to unite several individual stories in a single event. This differential was a positive and negative point here. It was the “something more” of this work, however, it left the chapters dedicated to explaining why each character embarked on the Clipper a little slow, the reading takes a while to pick up the pace with so many timelines shown together.

After a while the narrative gets used to it, and we get attached to the characters in such a way that we are as interested in knowing if they will solve their personal questions as the proposed mystery. The war and some issues considered common in 1939 - which now seem absurd - help a lot in this regard. Follett is very good at delving into both the historical and sentimental parts of the work, so we might even learn something here.

The suspense part is very well placed, throughout the reading we were more and more nervous to see the solution to the problem passenger issue. This solution was strategically placed at the very end of the book, further pique our curiosity.

In short, Night Over the Waters It's a good work, but not the author's best. It's simple and satisfying. For those who want to see a good plot, with twists only at the end, this is the request.
