The Prince Awakens is the first volume of the saga Gods of Egypt, written by Colleen Houck, same author of The Tiger's Curse.

As you can imagine, Gods of Egypt is a series of books filled with Egyptian mythology. In this first volume, we met the Princes of Egypt, we fell in love, laughed, suffered and went on an adventure with them.

In The Prince Awakens, we are taken to a delicious adventure narrated by Liliana, a 17 year old girl born in the elite of New York. Because of its golden cradle, Lily he has everything but freedom, and now he is fighting his lack of voice in choosing the University he will attend. On a visit to the museum, Lily meets Ammon, who just woke up. Amon is a Prince of Egypt with some powers that wakes up every thousand years to perform an important ritual, but this time he woke up in New York and without his Canopic Vessels (basically, his energy source), so he ends up connecting with Lily to able to go to Egypt, wake up his brothers and complete his mission.

While the pair follows their destiny, we have a lesson on ancient Egypt. Colleen used a writing style similar to Rick Riordan in that book, where we have some explanations about the culture and the Egyptian Gods in the course of events. The explanations do not leave much to be desired, it is clear that the author researched a lot about them and, in fact, gives a lesson to readers.

The way the author decided to tell the story really pleased me. Even though the protagonist is a teenager, The Prince Awakens differs from most fantasy works because it has a tone more focused on the old adventure films, in several moments I remembered “The Mummy”While reading, for example. This narrative made reading very pleasant, for example I read it in one day, I was unable to drop the book.

To complete the set, The Prince Awakens also pleases the eye. The covers and details are wonderful, full of hieroglyphs and symbols.

It is also worth mentioning that the characters are extremely friendly. Each one with its remarkable personality, it is almost impossible not to get attached to them. Unfortunately, I can't say who was my favorite or even tell more about each one without giving spoilers, but I can guarantee that in the middle of the work they will already be intimate with them.

With captivating characters, a good content of mythological information and an adventure that manages to arrest the reader from beginning to end, The Prince Awakens it is practically a must-read for fans of Egyptian adventure and / or storylines. The only problem is waiting to launch the sequels!

  1. I've read some really cool reviews on that book, but yours was the first one I read and explored something that catches my eye, a little bit of Egypt! I think it's so cool when an author is concerned with putting a little history in the books. Makes reading even richer
