Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is an air combat simulation game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.

This is the eighth major title in the Ace Combat series and was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 18, 2019, and on February 1 for Microsoft Windows. The PlayStation 4 version is compatible with PlayStation VR, including exclusive missions. Furthermore, an online multiplayer mode is also available.

The game takes place in the world of Strangereal in the year 2019 during the Second Continental Usean War, also known as the Lighthouse War. It is based on an armed conflict between the Federation of Osea and Kingdom of Erusea. The player controls a pilot from an Osea Penitentiary Unit called “Spare”, a military squad made up of criminal/devil pilots who are sent on dangerous missions as a form of punishment.

And after long years and several delays, the Ace Combat saga is back. Keeping its alternative universe, the game maintains the traditional fighters and weapons of the real world and the near future, but with a history steeped in the Ace Combat tradition.

For those who have never played the Ace franchise, you can start with this one, even without understanding the whole story. And for those who are already longtime fans, you can check out several references to previous games.

The gameplay is the same as the franchise, except for Assault Horizon, adding the famous "flare" to escape enemy attacks, the effect of rain hitting the screen when the player is in 3rd person and multiplayer, which only has deathmatch , or the famous team knockout and the addition of the battle royale.

As in the Infinity version, to get your fighters, the player has an aircraft tree, where you can choose a route and buy the planes
along with parts that improve performance,
being that some parts you only unlock in multiplayer. And those of the multi are exclusive for that mode only.

The game also has two modes to pilot, the expert (simulator) and the novice (arcade). So, if you are new to the franchise, you can opt for the novice. For those who prefer more realism, the simulator version is much better than the latest games.

The soundtrack has the same immersive beat as all Ace Combat games, but the initial beat is very reminiscent of the opening theme from Samurai Shodown Warriors Rage 2, only a little weaker.

The challenges for those who think Ace Combat follows the line of repetitive missions, where the fighter must take off and destroy pre-selected targets, will amaze. As in all games, the player must follow the missions, but knowing how to analyze all the elements present in a confrontation in order to take down the enemy. In addition, the game puts the player in situations where visibility is bad and the radar doesn't work.

The wide variety of scenarios is what makes the campaign totally fun and raises the challenge for the player.

The first missions follow the tutorial mode, which can tire the most veterans a little, but it helps those who have never played this type of game. In it, we can choose between some views like the cockpit and third person, which will radically change the piloting.

Ace Combat 7 is undoubtedly one of the best in the entire franchise, mainly because it brings a pleasant experience for new players and excellent campaigns and gameplay for those who have known it for a long time!
