The Lord of the Rings is arguably one of the greatest franchises of all time. From one of the – again – greatest fantasy books of the 20th century, it has already won animated versions, movies, series and games. And the newest title that arrives for fans is the game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

The game

He has nothing left to lose... How far will he go to get his Precious back? The history of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum takes place in parallel with the events of The Society of Annele is an action-adventure game and an epic interactive experience. Play as the enigmatic Gollum on a perilous journey and discover how he bested Middle-earth's mightiest characters.

The story

He has survived unspeakable perils, driven by an irrepressible desire to once again get his hands on the object that was stolen from him. Although it is a central part of the story created by JRR Tolkien, their desperate mission was never told in detail. Discover the forgotten story of Gollum at last: an experience incredibly faithful to the books.

Since his flight from Mordor, whence he escaped from the Mouth of Sauron and the demonic spider whore, until the arrival in the dungeons of the Elf King Thranduil, father of Legolas, Gollum had many adventures and encounters along his extraordinary journey.

A worthwhile adventure?

Playing as one of Tokien's famous characters is something fans have always wanted. And maybe, depending on the story and what it's like, who knows as Gollum? In a way, it's a good call to get your hands on the controller to "control" this layered character.

But unfortunately the game is inferior to others in the franchise. Playing with such a long-suffering character, and one of the most popular, seemed to be the right thing to do. Even more so for empathizing with Gollum and all that he was tormented by. But that doesn't mean the game is all bad. He's even fun, but that's about it.

With a character that climbs walls and his way of walking, it's obvious that it turns out to be a more stealth-style title. You can't want Gollum to go out picking up swords, doing magic and fighting Orcs or even Sauron, because that would be going against everything that is the character and the story.

In this part, climbing, jumping, and interacting with other characters in the game is even interesting, but ends up getting tiring with time. It seems that there is always something more to be done, but unfortunately nothing else happens.

Another point was the bugs. The received version was for the PC. It doesn't quite have the same problems as last-gen consoles, but it did have some. Nothing that would give you a headache, because unfortunately it seems that currently released games tend to come with various types of bugs.

But otherwise, the game flows very well. Only – again – unfortunately the game is just normal. Not bad or good, just another game to play without getting too deep into the plot. And if that's what you're looking for, something more of the character, we're sorry to inform you, but what you already know - if you've read the books - is just that and nothing more.

If anything else was added, it would be a huge headache, unless it came from something unpublished by Tolkien.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum unfortunately it doesn't quite reach the level of other games in the franchise, but it's fun for one, and only, adventure.
