Streets of Rage 4, is a street fighting style video game (beat 'em up) developed by Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games, as the fourth edition of the series Streets of Rage, published by DotEmu in association with the company Sega Games. The game is a direct sequel to Streets of Rage 3 (1994), video game megadrive. It was announced in August 2018 and released on April 30, 2020 for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox one.

Was it worth the wait?

Straight and straight: yes! The classic took a while to have a sequel, even if it was never expected by fans. Of course, the dream exists, but after the weak game that was the third, fans of the franchise no longer had great expectations of a new game, or perhaps a remastered version.

Gameplay: Electrosphere Project

Anyway, the surprise from its release to its debut, shows that Streets of Rage is a timeless game. The fourth game, as can be seen in the gameplay above, maintains the standard of street fights, but it innovates by putting a more cartoonish trait and a game where we can choose the characters' food.

The challenge is frantic and every wrong punch is a reason for enemies to hit us. The soundtrack also kept the expected, with strong beats and an option that we can put in a classic version. Still within the options, the game has several languages, including Portuguese.

Characters

The classics are back, with the addition of two new heroes. Keeping the same strength, agility, among others, the Streets of Rage 4 characters have differences between them, but not so significant for those who are playing. Even so, it is noticeable in the commands the speed and strength from one to the other.

And speaking of commands, the option for those who play on PC, brings something very interesting, which is the control choice mode for Playstation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PC. So, there's no excuse when you don't know how to hit that blow or say you don't know the game's commands.

Enemies are also hard work and those who don't know the street fight style can complain about several appearing at the same time and repeated. But this has always been one of the highlights of any game of the style. And having appealing enemies that attack you from behind or appear with hidden weapons, has always been the differentiator of beat 'em ups.

Overall, Streets of Rage 4 is one of the biggest releases of the year. It may not win prizes, but it definitely proves that rescuing a 1990s arcade game is totally valid, even more so without having to do a remake. With a simple story (story?), engaging characters, Streets of Rage can serve as an inspiration for other classics to earn an excellent continuation, such as Final Fight!
