Rock in Rio adopts certification aimed at sustainability and reduction of carbon emissions into the atmosphere

Amidst discussions involving the UN Climate Conference (COP 26) on reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, major world events are increasingly starting to prepare themselves more and more to reduce the impact of carbon emissions In the atmosphere. This is the case of Rock In Rio, one of the biggest music and entertainment events on the planet, which has the ISO 20121 certification focused on sustainability.

At the event, which takes place in Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro, concern for the environment dates back to 2006, when the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions into the atmosphere began and, in 2013, it became an action certified by the Portuguese company APCER, which now measures the amount of waste that is no longer released into the atmosphere due to sustainable policies adopted by Rock in Rio.

In the 2013 Brazilian edition of Rock In Rio, the release of 9,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere were avoided, optimizing expenditure on electricity and fuel at the event site, as well as waste treatment and public transport, in addition to transporting artists , partner companies, shopkeepers, suppliers and cargo transport.

Internationally known, ISO 20121 is the certification that provides a framework to identify, reduce and eliminate the potentially negative impacts of events of all types, in the environmental, social and economic spheres, such as the generation of large volumes of waste, waste of materials, excessive consumption of resources (water and energy) and problems for the surrounding communities.

Its role is also aimed at maximizing the positive impacts of these events, such as generating a wide range of public, community and economic benefits, through better planning and improved processes. It is applied to all members of the event industry's supply chain, including organizers, event managers, stand builders and logistics operators.
