Amazon Studios Original Lord of the Rings Series to Record Season 2 in UK

O Amazon Studios announced that its original series on Lord of the Rings will film the second season in the UK. This move aligns with the studio's strategy to expand its production brand and invest in studio spaces across the UK, with several of Amazon Studios' flagship films and series already being produced in the country.

The long-awaited series Lord of the Rings recently wrapped principal photography on season one in New Zealand and is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in over 240 countries on Friday, September 2, 2022.

Post-production on the first season will continue in New Zealand until June 2022, and pre-production on the second season will begin simultaneously in the UK after January 1st.

“As we intend to relocate production to the UK, we will not actively seek the 5% grant from the MoU utilized in Season One with the New Zealand government or preserve the terms around this agreement, however we respect our partners and will remain in direct contact. with them about next steps,” said Albert Cheng, COO and TV Co-Head at Amazon Studios.

The new epic drama brings to screen for the first time the legendary story of the Second Age of Middle-earth of JRR Tolkien. Starting in a time of relative peace, thousands of years before the events of the books The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings From Tolkien, the series follows a cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they face the dreaded resurgence of evil in Middle-earth.

The series is led by executive producers JD Payne and Patrick McKay. They join the executive producers Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, JA Bayona, Belen Atienza, Justin Double, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond and Sharon Tal Yguado. Wayne Che Yip is co-executive producer and directs with JA Bayona and Charlotte Brändström. Christopher Newman is a producer and Ron Ames is co-producer.
