Biographies of war heroes are always very controversial. They always generate criticism about being patriotic advertisements that force the public to see the USA as a victim. Adapted from the work American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in US Militar History, written by Chris Kyle, American sniper (American Sniper-2014) manages to soften this view a little by focusing on the protagonist's psychological difficulties.

The plot is focused on the life of SEAL Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper, who also signs as a producer) who became known as a legend for being the best and most lethal sniper in the American army. In the first scene, the weight that this title had on Kyle is shown, with the decision to shoot or not at a child carrying a grenade.

Through a Flashback is presented how Kyle decided to become a SEAL and some of his training. The character is also introduced Taya (Sienna Miller), Kyle's future wife who plays an important role in the story. Between missions coming and going, we follow Kyle's life and the psychological effects that each trip has on him.

Kyle e Cooper
Similarity between Cooper's character and Kyle.

However, the plot is not surprising. It has an interesting history, but it is not as intense or shocking as some works related to the theme (The Great Hero and Invincible are good examples). True quality is in the wonderful direction of Clint eastwood, in the wealth of production and in Cooper's performance.

The scenarios, photography and effects are practically impeccable, there are scenes with magnificent quality, such as the sandstorm. Cooper's performance is not a revelation, because we know the potential of the actor, but it is a very different role than what he is used to doing and this highlights his talent a lot.

Sniper Americano BebêA glaring error in production is the Baby doll. In a certain scene a doll is used in place of a baby, which we can very easily see is not a real child. This does not compromise the quality of the scene in any way, but it seems a strange mistake for a feature film so rich in details and which gave a lot to talk about. As reported by the team responsible, they had some unforeseen events with the two chosen babies and therefore were forced to resort to the doll.

Because it is a violent and somewhat political film, American sniper does not please all audiences. The most shocking scenes have not been spared, so it may not suit the most sensitive. However, the psychological factor of all the horror he witnessed is one of the differentials of the feature and can make the film more enjoyable for non-fans of violence.
