The third season of The Boys is already knocking on the door and with it a new character for the plot, which at first sight totally pleased the fans of Supernatural, since the actor Jensen Ackles is the one who is giving life to the super hero of the past.

But if the arrival of this super pleases the actor's fans, maybe he can disappoint a little, since like the vast majority of the "heroes" in The Boys, they are anything but what they really should be. Anyway, it's more than expected an excellent interpretation of Jensen Ackles. But, who is it soldier boy in the comics and what will he be like in the series? Check it out below!

The Origin of Soldier Boy

For starters there are three versions of Soldier Boy, and one of them is not Jensen Ackles. The most current is the one adapted for the series. This modern version appeared in the miniseries Herogasm (which is also the name of one of the episodes) from the third season of The Boys.

This version, which is a parody of the captain America, is utterly fearful as seen on one of the covers and utterly weak-willed. This appearance is one of the parts – among many – that brought more controversy in the comics. The reason is that Soldier Boy wants to join Os 7 and for that, homelander says he will only enter if you have sex with him.

Of course this happens and Soldier Boy is again harassed by Homelander, who says he's not gay, not to mention anything about it to anyone and even says that he doesn't even know how to do that right.

The other version, is older, that fought in World War II. He was the leader of The Avenging Squad, a satire of Invaders, another Marvel group made up of Captain America, James “Bucky” Barnes, Namor, the original Human Torch, Toro, Union Jack, Spitfire, Miss America and the super fast Whizzer.

Soldier Boy was one of the first super beings in Vought American sent to fight in World War II, but as they were immature (stupid), they ended up revealing the location of the North American troops and were killed along with the entire battalion. The only survivor was Greg Mallory, who in the future would create The Boys.

The modern Soldier Boy is completely naive and for this reason all other super beings take advantage of him to do the dirty work or to satisfy them sexually, especially Homelander.

Soldier Boy has a habit of reciting the name of US states when involved in battle. In one of these fights to please Homelander, he fights Butcher, who rips off his nose to be tortured and then killed by The Boys.

The character is not new to the series. Soldier Boy had already been mentioned earlier in the second season by Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito), when he's talking to Homelander and recounting all of Soldier Boy's World War II heroics.

Also, the monument honoring the super being is in front of the Vought Tower. This version of the series will be based on the one from World War II. Jensen Ackles in interviews stated that the character's first words will be: "What the fuck is this?"

Jensen Ackles on Soldier Boy

“What happens is they kind of find me, and I've essentially been in captivity for a while. And then when they do that, I'm bearded and I look like a Castaway, but then they clean me up and I put my superhero outfit back on and I go to town… He's a grandpa. He's from the '40s. He fought in WWII, and he's just this grumpy, bigoted. He doesn't age, so he's this 40-year-old young superhero who's actually in his 80s or 90s. There's so much material in there, you'll see what I mean when you see the show, but he has a taste for people who were from his time.” ComicBook

uniform in the series

The Boys | Quem é Soldier Boy nos quadrinhos e na série 6

Soldier Boy's uniform was made by the series' costume designer. Laura Jean Shannon with the conceptual artist Greg Hopwood. According to the artist, he is “the original f0d4o”. She went on to say that “our goal was to highlight a bygone era of open masculinity and courage. With this pedigree, we've plunged headlong into cooking in an all-American quality grounded in the practicality of a military soldier with a heavy dose of old-school cowboy swagger. Fortunately Jensen Ackles embodies all of that.”

And it's not just the costume designer who fell in love with the uniform. Eric Kripke, showrunner of The Boys was also excited by what he saw. “LJ has made a piece of art that points his hat at the WWII Soldier Boy from the comics, while taking him in a stylish new direction. And if you think the photos are cool, wait until you see Jensen in action.”
