History of Miracles

Part of what captivates audiences is Miraculos set in modern Paris, where Marinette and adrien they are two schoolgirls with a difference: they are the ones chosen to save Paris from evil! They were given an important mission – to capture akumas, creatures responsible for turning normal people into super-villains. When involved in such adventures, these two students become superheroes: Marinette becomes Ladybug and Adrien becomes Cat Noir.

But Ladybug and Cat Noir don't know each other's true identities. Marinette doesn't know that, beneath the Cat Noir costume, nestles Adrien, her secret crush. Likewise, Adrien doesn't know that Ladybug is actually just Marinette – one of the girls in her class. Will they defeat the forces of evil together?

The inspiration for Miracles

The original concept of Lady bug was conceived by Thomas Astruc circa 2005. One day, after meeting a young woman wearing a ladybug shirt and working with her, Thomas toyed with the idea of a ladybug, soon creating a post-it with the ladybug design. Thinking that the character worked well, Thomas began to develop this character with new designs (as seen in fake comic book covers called The Mini Menace Ladybug) and built the universe around him, inspired by comic book universes like Marvel. He continued to develop his idea until he met Jeremy Zag, a producer of Zagtoon, who allowed Thomas to do what he thought best with her.

The character went through many changes during development. The series was originally designed for an older audience, such as teenagers and young adults, with political stories and a darker tone. However, as the editorial director explained Sebastien Thibaudeau, “Some elements clouded its perception and nobody knew why”, so the team worked to make it lighter for a younger audience. THE Toei Animation helped create an animated promotional video showing footage of what the show would be like in order to showcase the show as an anime, but eventually it was decided to make the series in CGI. There was also a time when the producers encouraged making Ladybug and Cat Noir part of a superhero team, but that didn't help sell the show, and the superhero team idea was dropped because of that.

Miracles Team

In the original audio, Cristina Valenzuela gives voice to protagonist Ladybug, while Bryce Papenbrook dubs Cat Noir. Bug's friend mascot, Tikki, is dubbed by Mela Lee and the feline mascot Plagg is voiced by Max Mittelman. already the villain Hawk Moth is lived by Keith Silverstein.

In Brazil, the dub of Miraculous: As Aventuras de Ladybug is done by Beck Studios, with the main cast Jessica VieiraFabricio Vila VerdeGuilherme Briggs, Isabelle Cunha and Luiz Sergio Vieira.

Duration and Transmedia universe

Season 1, Season 2, and Season 3 each have 26 half-hour episodes. The transmedia universe is huge, with a webseries and some additional web exclusive content released after its first season.

Plans for a fourth and fifth season were also revealed. In April 2021 the sixth and seventh seasons were also confirmed.

As it is a children's animation, its universe also encompasses several objects, such as stationery lines, toys, clothing, adapted books and even a sticker album.

Pleases children and adults

Possibly because of its inspiration from comic book superheroes, Miraculous: The Adventures of Ladybug appeals to everyone, often bringing parents and children together to watch when it's on television. Even critics seem to delight in the production, as Robert Lloyd, of Los Angeles Times, who finds it smart, romantic, fun, the way some of us prefer our superhero stories.

Emily Ashby, of Common Sense Media, thinks it's a good example, as overall, the message to kids is that being aggressive doesn't pay, and if you want people to like you, you better be yourself. Not bad for a fun heroes tale.

Already Josh Oswald, of Pittsburgh City Paper, doesn't think that's so innovative, calling it a chic animation set in Paris, but in the end it's just another one of those kids fighting crime.

Miraculous: Ladybug Adventures is available on Netflix and will be exclusive to Disney+ in the future.
