Hollywood is staggering as the ripple effect of Coronavirus advances in the industry. As fears of meetings in busy areas grow, cinemas are affected and studios are rethinking their release times. After A Quiet Place Part II announced that he would postpone his debut, a Universal followed the idea and revealed that Fast and Furious 9 will be postponed for a full year.
The official release date, revealed in the declaration, will now be April 2, 2021. The announcement was made through a note sent to the media and fans:
For our family of fast fans everywhere,
We feel all the love and expectation that you have for the next chapter of our saga.
That is why it is especially difficult to say that we need to change the release date of the film. It was clear that it will not be possible for all of our fans around the world to see the film in May this year.
We are changing the global launch date to April 2021, with North America opening on April 2. Although we know that there is a disappointment in waiting a little longer, this change is made with everyone's safety as our main consideration.
The change will allow our global family to experience our new chapter together. See you next spring.
Your Fast Family
In addition to the old acquaintances of the saga, such as Toretto (Vin Diesel), Tej (Ludacris) and Roman (Tyrese Gibson), the feature will have the largest female representation ever seen in the series' films. Among the actresses are Michelle Rodriguez, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, Jordana Brewster and Nathalie Emmanuel, in addition to the participation of rapper Cardi B.
The new chapter of the series - which started in 2001 - still rescues the tone of the "Fast Family" with the unexpected return of Han (Sung Kang) and the actor's input John Cena, as the brother of Dominic Toretto.
