Last Sunday, March 15th, the HBO and the HBO GO exhibited the premiere of the third season of Westworld. As promised, the creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy presented a season with a different narrative than the previous ones, but still with the essence of the production.

The first episode of the third season generated great expectations and instigated fans of this original HBO production regarding the development of the story going forward.

Here are five news presented in its first episode:

New world

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the new year Westworld  has been its ability to reinvent itself. The third season brings new characters with different dilemmas and a story that has taken an interesting turn, delving into the possibilities of evolution through artificial intelligence, its limits and what differentiates humans from machines.

Caleb

We finally saw the long-awaited premiere of Aaron Paul interpreting Caleb, a construction worker who is friends with the robot George and leads a criminal life to pay off his debts. Caleb is noble, lonely and curious, so he establishes a good relationship with the technology that surrounds the world where he lives. For sure he will form a great duo with Dolores.

Dolores

From the first few minutes of the episode, Dolores showed what her intentions are in the human world. The character, who in the first season was a hostess struggling to free her own conscience, has turned into an assassin seeking revenge. What will she be able to do outside of the park?

A City of the Future

Another novelty of the third season was the futuristic settings, with its version of the “real” world in a “neo-Los Angeles”. The scenes of this technological city were filmed in Singapore, during 10 days, with the help of the architect Bjarke Ingels. He suggested the location to the creators of the series, as the city spectacularly combines nature with modernity. Throughout the season, scenes such as the National Gallery of Singapore, the Helix Bridge, the Parkroyal Hotel and the LASALLE College of Arts will appear.

Technology

Houses controlled by smart appliances, voice assistants, high-tech driverless cars and drones that work like helicopters are some of the technological features presented this season. They are elements that show how to live in this futuristic version idealized by the creators of the series and that stimulate the debate about the impact of technology on society, with news that sometimes we would like to have or not.
