Zooey Deschanel joins Zachary Levi in a literary adaptation directed by Carlos Saldanha

Harold and the Purple Crayon is one of the greatest literary successes in the USA and other personalities such as Steven Spielberg and Will Smith have already tried to adapt the work.


The children's book that tells the story of a four-year-old boy who creates imaginary worlds with his crayons, originally published in 1955 by Crockett Johnson is getting a movie adaptation, through the Brazilian director and Oscar nominee, Carlos Saldanha.

Harold and the Purple Crayon is being scripted by David Guion and Michael Handelman (A Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb). Saldanha is responsible for the direction. The book may not be known in Brazil, but in the US it was a great success, so much so that it came to life as an animated short film in 1959, 1971 and 1974, and in 2002 it became a 13-episode series by HBO, with narration by Sharon Stone.

Producers have been trying to bring the book to the big screen for a long time. As mentioned by THR, Spike Jonze, just like the Amblin Entertainment in Steven Spielberg as for overbrook in Will Smith already tried to adapt the work. Previously, the Sony Pictures Animation was working on a CG animated version.

The cast of the adaptation has Zachary Levi (Shazam, Underdog, Chuck, among others), as well as Rachel ZeglerAsher AngelJack Dylan GrazerHelen MirrenLucy Liu, between others. Now the production has confirmed Zooey Deschanel, which will soon be seen in theaters in the movie Dreamin' Wild beside Walton Goggins and Jack Dylan Grazer.
