Almost 23 years after the premiere of Matrix, in 1999, the story created by the Wachowski sisters, which became a pop culture classic in the late 90s and which also revolutionized cinema and the science fiction genre, returns with a new chapter in Matrix Resurrections.

At first, an unknown woman, later known as Trinity, leads hacker Neo into a forbidden underworld where he discovers a shocking truth: the life he knows is an elaborate fraud by an evil cyberintelligence, for which Neo joins. to the legendary warrior Morpheus in the battle to destroy the illusion that enslaves humanity. Thus, he begins a fight to stay alive and escape the Matrix.

With the unquestionable success of Matrix in film, the plan was quickly conceived, led by the Wachowski sisters, to continue and end the battle between humans and machines in two new productions that were released in 2003, called Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions.

In Matrix Resurrections, Zion, the last city of the real world, is besieged by the machine army. Just hours before 250,000 sentries destroy the last human enclave on Earth - and its growing resistance - Neo and Trinity decide to return to the Matrix, with Morpheus, deploying his arsenal of extraordinary abilities and weapons against the forces of repression and exploitation. Neo must follow the course he has chosen if he is to save humanity from the dark fate that haunts his dreams.

For the conclusion of the trilogy, under the premise that “Everything that has a beginning has an end”, the Wachowski sisters delivered an explosive final chapter of Matrix Revolutions in which Neo, Morpheus and Trinity fight to defend Zion against the onslaught of the machines that enslaved the human race, while Neo learns more about his heroic powers and faces the consequences of the choice made in the second film.

And that's how the trilogy ended in 2003, but in 2021 it returned with a new chapter that continues the story of Neo and Trinity after the events of the original trilogy, now under the direction of Lana Wachowski and with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. in the main roles, in the company of old acquaintances and new characters who join the story. These are some of the most important facts to remember before watching the new movie:

RED PILL OR BLUE PILL?

After a truce between machines and humans was reached, Neo resume your life as Thomas Anderson, who works as a video game developer; apparently he leads his life normally, despite suffering constant panic attacks and flashbacks that make him discern between what is real and what isn't. In one of these episodes, Neo will have to decide whether to follow the white rabbit again and take the red or blue pill.

NEW CHARACTERS

For this new chapter, Keanu Reeves remains in the role of the iconic Neo, just as the character of Trinity is played by Carrie-Anne Moss. will also be present Jada Pinkett Smith how niobe, Lambert Wilson how Merovingian and Daniel Bernhardt interpreting agent Johnson. Joining the story are Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Morpheus), Pryanka Chopra (Sati), Jonathan Groff (Smith), Eréndira Ibarra (Lexy), Jessica Henwick (Bugs) and Neil Patrick Harris (The Analyst).

THE CHOSEN

After being prophesied by the Oracle, Anderson was chosen to be the only one capable of ending the war that was raging between humans and machines. Well, nearly 20 years later, that threat is rising again, as Neo slowly remembers who he was. Will Neo still be 'The Chosen One'? Or will we see a new character capable of ending this war?

THE LOVE BETWEEN NEO AND TRINITY

After sacrificing themselves to save humanity and freeing themselves from artificial intelligence, Neo and Trinity are reunited, with the small detail that neither remembers the other. But despite this, the feeling will make them remember what they lived and return to the Matrix together. Déjà vu.

Matrix Resurrections will be available on HBO Max January 28th.
