Blade Runner is one of the best known names among fans of fiction and Cyberpunk. As an adaptation of the book by Philip K. Dick from 1968, Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?, the feature hit the cinema screens in 1982 by the hands of Ridley Scott and having Harrison Ford in the lead role.

And since then, Blade Runner already won versions of animation and comics, which expand even more this great universe of Phillip K. Dick. Among them is the trilogy Blade Runner 2019, launched in Brazil by Excelsior Publisher. The trilogy is a direct continuation of the original 1982 feature, but that doesn't mean you need to have seen the movie. On the contrary.

The story is completely new, with new characters and a plot that would make a beautiful movie. By the way, the screenwriter of the three editions of Blade Runner 2019 is Michael Green, nominated for an Oscar for Logan, Blade Runner 2049 and Murder on the Orient Express.

Blade Runner 2019 Off-World jumps forward a few years after the events of the first volume. Now Ash and Cleo live in the worlds outside Earth, Off-World, hiding from Cleo's father, the tycoon Alexander Selwyn. As in the first edition, the Editora maintains its beautiful work with a very well produced Novel.

The story has growth and the universe of Blade Runner outside of Earth, as well as Ash's past is further explored. It's interesting to observe, unlike the movies, what the real world is like for those in need. If in feature films and anime we only have a brief description, Novel is much more blatant.

In addition, presenting strong female characters who still have to deal with old sexist behavioral patterns is something more than welcome. Ash, like Cleo, are interesting characters with layers that make the reader have more empathy for what they go through.

Introducing the new Blade Runner into the storyline and showing how much the world has changed and still linking the comic to the prequel to the second film Blade Runner 2049, Blade Runner Black Out 2022, it's smart to place the fan in the timeline of the characters.

The color composition and drawings of this Graphic Novel remain remarkable. The presentation of worlds outside Earth, as well as the different Replicants, physical and mental violence, are something that elevate the quality of this work, making each page a true art and a tribute to Syd Mead, the designer of the 1982 film.

But it's not just visual Blade Runner 2019 Off-World Is made. The Graphic Novel continues with all its social commentary during Ash and Cleo's journey. Even though the story revolves around the two, the script finds several ways to present a decadent society that is much more claustrophobic than previously seen.

And this is the key and primordial point of these works: not just being tied to a single plot, without being able to understand what happens next to the protagonists. While other comics just use the background as just a mere drawing to show where the characters are, Blade Runner 2019 presents real people and depressing streets as a picture of a place we've been and tried to escape.

Blade Runner 2019 Off-World, as well as its first volume, are works that deserve to be read by every fan of the franchise and also by those who love Cyberpunk and its depth and social aesthetics.
